Review: August Doorbell Cam Pro

Over the last few weeks, I’ve had the chance to install and review a range of new smart home lines from August Home. The company broke out of the gates a few years ago with the first-generation August Smart Lock and have subsequently launched a range of security lines, including the August Doorbell Cam.

Last month, August took the wraps off its 2017 range of security solutions, which include the third-generation August Smart Lock and Smart Lock Pro as well as the Doorbell Cam Pro. Stay tuned for my thoughts on the two locks – today’ let’s kick off with the Doorbell Cam Pro, which I reviewed for Digital Trends.

When the doorbell is pressed, you’ll receive a notification on your phone, and thanks to an integrated color HD camera, you can see who is at the front door via the August smartphone app. If you’ve installed an August Smart Lock, you can let your visitor into the house with a simple tap, or speak into your phone to politely send away that door-to-door salesman. A smart and simple companion but, as you’ll read in the August Doorbell Cam Pro Review, the device isn’t a slam dunk.

  1. Sadly another SEO landing page for Digital Trends.

Sad times as WGS used to be a really good site, I understand it has to evolve but seriously what is the point of the site reviews now? You may as well just re-point WGS to the Digital Trends website.

    RIP WGS.

    1. Thanks for the post – having published WGS for over ten years, I’ve been handed the opportunity to write for a whole variety of publications and brands as a full-time career. Unfortunately, that means I can’t devote all of my time to WGS as I used to. It’s almost impossible nowadays to make a living publishing an independent blog – certainly one that’s tech-focused – but I’m lucky enough to be able to keep writing about technology and pay the bills!

I figured readers may still want to keep in touch with my work, hence these light posts and links (hopefully you understand I can’t republish reviews in full here). Going forward, I’ll need to figure out what to do with the site, but hopefully, some readers will find the links useful in the meantime.
