NETEGAR Arlo Pro smart home camera system will hit the UK in January

Further to the news of a US release for NETGEAR’s updated Arlo Pro smart home camera system, the company has confirmed today that the new camera will arrive in the UK in January, accompanied by a range of accessories.

The Arlo Pro builds on the first-generation weatherproof system with the addition of a new base station with 100 decibel siren, quick-charge rechargable batteries, a passive infrared motion sensor, two way audio, advanced night vision and a wider 130-degree viewing angle. As before, the battery-powered, 720p high-definition cameras are wireless and can be used indoors or outdoors.

Also new to Arlo will be a smart motion recognition feature, available later this year, which uses advanced machine learning algorithms to improve how the system captures and reports events. Arlo will be able to differentiate between people, cars, animals and swaying trees, ensuring the system records and alerts you to only those events that matter.

NETGEAR tells us that the Arlo app is also being updated, to provide an easier and more intelligent user experience. A Smart Arm/Disarm feature automatically enables motion detection based on your location or a pre-planned schedule. You will also be able to access your camera feeds via Apple TV, courtesy of a download on the Apple app store. As previously discussed on these pages, support for Samsung SmartThings and IFTTT enables deeper integration with a wide range of third-part smart home kit and associated services.

Alongside live monitoring on the Arlo apps or a web browser, you can also opt to store recordings in the cloud for seven days, absolutely free. Up to five cameras can be connected to the cloud at no cost, with additional plans available for more complex or comprehensive coverage. At this point, no local recording options are available other than downloading stored cips from the cloud.

With Arlo Pro available to pre-order now in the USA, the UK can expect to see the system arrive in January, priced at £259.99. Arlo Pro Add-on Cameras (VMC4030) will be available for purchase for £169.99 each.

NETGEAR will also release a range of accessories for Arlo Pro. Pricing has yet to be finalised, but expect to see the following:

Arlo Pro Charging Station (VMA4400C)

Use the fast-charging Arlo Pro Charging Station to charge up to two Arlo Pro batteries simultaneously, saving on charging time and minimizing camera downtime.

 Arlo Pro Rechargeable Battery (VMA4400)

Get an add-on 2440mAh Lithium Ion battery and fast-charging power adapter so you can swap out your batteries and avoid waiting for a charge.

Arlo Pro Skins (VMA4200B)

A lightweight silicon material available in black protects your Arlo Pro camera from natural elements and helps to blend into its surroundings.

We’ll be bringing you a review of Arlo Pro towards the end of the year – stay tuned!
