While the latest, high-speed 802.11AC standalone routers have been flying from retailer shelves for some time now, combined modem/routers that support the latest standards have been a little thin on the ground.
Today, Linksys took the wraps off their brand new XAC1900 and XAC1200 AC modem/routers which remove the need for users with ADSL or DSL Internet connections to use a separate modem with a high-speed 802.11ac router.
The Linksys AC1900 Dual-Band Smart Wi-Fi Modem Router (XAC1900) and Linksys AC1200 Dual-Band Smart Wi-Fi Modem Router (XAC1200) are the company’s latest networking devices, offering users a choice of network speeds to go with the convenience offered by the integrated devices.
The XAC1900 offers simultaneous dual-band speeds rated up to 600 Mbps (2.4GHz) and 1300 Mpbs (5GHz) with the cheaper XAC1200 delivering 300Mbps on the 2.4GHz band and 867Mbps at 5GHz.
Both devices support Linksys’ Smart Wi-Fi software which allows remote access and management of features including parental controls, network monitoring and guest network creation as well as a number of apps to boost performance for gaming and other network-intensive applications.
Both devices are equipped with four Gigabit Ethernet ports plus a USB 3.0 for storage and printer sharing. The XAC1900 adds external antennas (for greater range) plus an additional USB 2.0 port.
You’ll find the Linksys XAC1900 Router and Linksys XAC1200 Router available now, priced at £199.99 and £129.99 respectively.
