Lian Li has announced plans to release an unusual product: a PC case in the form of a desk, complete with a tempered glass top, allowing the user to see into the glowing, flashing heart of their computer.
According to a blog post by the company, the case will support E-ATX, ATX and Micro-ATX motherboards, hold up to 14 hard drives and will have 10 expansion slots. The front I/O will have 3.5mm audio in and out, 4 USB 3.0 ports, a power button, and a key hole to allow the drawer to be locked. Additionally, the post indicates that LEDs and monitor mounts will be included.
Bringing to mind retro arcade cabinets of the 80’s, the DK01 desk chassis will be on show at the upcoming CeBIT expo, in addition to several other new cases from the manufacturer. Whether the DK01 actually makes it into the hands of consumers, or stays in the concept stage remains to be seen, but staff on the Lian Li blog confirmed that it will “eventually” be released.
From the press release:
DK01 – A Desk and PC Fusion
Combining the symbiotic relationship of desks and computer cases, the DK01 is a chassis like no other. Constructed of aluminum, this hybrid chassis allows DIY builders to build a full computer inside the desk and show off their hardware creations through the tempered glass desktop. The DK01 eliminates the need for PC towers.
Like no other, indeed.
