Using the BytePac HD enclosure
Once connected to your computer, the BytePac behaves and is recognized just like any other external USB drive.
This is a USB 2.0 setup, so the SATA to USB 2.0 transfer speeds
are something less than SATA to SATA speeds.
I left the device on for several hours and the area around the vent holes became slightly warm, while the remainder of the enclosure stayed quite cool. This would seem to indicate that the passive cooling vents were actually quite effective in removing heat from the drive. However, being a poor conductor of heat, this “feeling” can be misleading. Unfortunately, I have never seen S.M.A.R.T monitors work with USB drives, so I could not gather this kind of information.
From a usage perspective, that is about all there is to document. It works. Quite well actually.
